Al was born August 8, 1954 in Cresco, IA. He was farming for as long as he could remember. He married the love of his life, Carol Spalla (Riha) on June 9, 1979. Together they raised three children.
Al worked as a dairy farmer for 12 years in Iowa, before moving to Fountain to raise beef cattle. He loved his time on the tractor and raising his eclectic herd of cattle.
Al enjoyed life. He was always quick with a joke and loved to give people a hard time. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed many of his neighbors. Al was quick to help someone out when they were in need. He was known for his great breakfasts. He enjoyed many spur of the moment adventures, including trips to a working ranch in WY with friends, traveling to Maine, a summer long trip to Alaska, and even wintering in AZ with Carol for a few winters.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carol; 3 children Melissa (Bradley) Milbrath from Lakefield, MN, and step-daughters Jennifer (Craig) Kozar from Hugo, Minnesota and Karla Puffer from Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren, Thor and Annabelle Melbye, Carter and Eleanor Milbrath, In-laws Frank and JoMarie Riha, Rosemary and Ron Hackman, Betty and John Foreman, Gene Riha, Connie and Al Muhlenbruck, and Lori and Wade Fisher, as well as many nieces and nephews.
